Green usually denotes healthy and fresh produce except for potato.. Literally, the greenish part on the surface of the potato is the presence of chlorophyll generated when the potato is exposed to light (natural or artificial). Even if chlorophyll is non-poisonous, another product produced along with chlorophyll called solanine which is a harmful toxin.. If consumed in large quantities, it can be toxic.. The mild symptoms of Solanine poisoning include severe gastro-intestinal tract infections and neurological problems.. In extreme cases, paralysis, breathing problems, coma or even death have been reported.. So if you see any green part on the potato, just peel of the green patches of the skin, and use the rest out of it.. Be cautious.. Don’t take any chance that makes our family ill..
